A Christmas Reunion
Christmas is a time for celebration, which makes it the perfect time to reunite with family and loved ones. Whether you’re at home or traveling, there’s always a sense of joy and happiness, much like the streets of Ukraine come the holiday season. With their snow-covered streets adorned with colorful trees, twinkling lights, sparkling garlands and mistletoes, Ukraine sums up what’s best about the holidays.
Beyond the blanket of snow, Ukraine also offers many unique landmarks and exceedingly beautiful sceneries. The capital city Kiev, considered one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe, is a perennial tourist favorite with places like the Khreshchatyk district, which offers tourists authentic Kievan ambiance with plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Other famous places within the district are Kiev Passage, Independence Square, and the Besarabsky indoor market, where people can buy garden-fresh produce and quality meat for very reasonable prices.
Tourists will also find interest in the House with Chimaeras, whose stone sculptures often spark interest for its intricacy and obscurity with animals like dolphins, rhinos, and frogs as well as mythological creatures like mermaids. The Kiev Pechersk Lavra is also a must-visit attraction with its vast complex of many Orthodox Christian Churches and active monastery with over a hundred monks in residence. It’s been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as one of Ukraine’s Seven Wonders back in 2007.
Of course, it’s not a white Christmas without snow. Ukraine’s largest ski resort named Bukovel offers over 68 kilometers of slopes and offers visitors several activities like skiing, snow biking, airsoft, dog sledding, paintball, and horseback riding.
This yuletide season, spend some time with your family, reminisce about memories from the past, and create new memories that you’ll treasure for eternity in Ukraine’s capital city of Kiev.
Merry Christmas to all!
