The Yuletide season is upon as once again. While many are still planning on what to do this Christmas, here in LaIsla we give you the best ideas to spend your holidays.
We’re heading to Macedonia this month for an exciting adventure.
The Republic of Macedonia is bordered by Greece in the south, Serbia in the north, Albania in the west, and Bulgaria in the east. The country’s capital and by far largest city is Skopje which lies along the Vardar River.
Always a first stop, Macedonia Square is strategically located at the heart of Skopje. Many monuments like Alexander the Great riding his horse Bucephalus, Dame Gruev, and Goce Delčev can be found at this place. Skopje City is also home to interesting landmarks. There’s the National Theatre where many cultural shows are performed, the Memorial House of Mother Teresa exhibiting pieces from Mother Teresa’s early life up to his recent canonization, and the National Archaeological Museum which showcases more than 6,000 historical artefacts from the prehistoric era up to medieval times.
Take a souvenir photo at the Triumphal Arch of Porta Macedonia located in the Pella Square. It was constructed in honor of the country’s 20th independence. Make sure to visit the Rotunda of Galerius, also called as the Church of Agios Georgios. There’s a Greek Orthodox Church originally meant to be Roman Emperor Galerius’ mausoleum.
In the City of Ohrid, you will also find more beautifully constructed churches.
True to its word, this season is the time for joyful celebration as it marks the end of the year and the beginning of another. Enjoy the festivities and have a ton of fun as your holiday destination awaits you in Macedonia.
