Welcome, Summer!
It’s 6 AM. You’re enjoying a cup of your favorite coffee.
In the softness of the early morning light, you look out the window and realize that it’s summer once again. It’s now time to plan new adventures. And LaIsla, yet again, is tirelessly gathering the most exceptional and captivating getaways for you.
First in our endless list is Malta, a group of islands located south of Sicily, and in between the countries of Italy and North Africa. The former British colony acquired its independence in 1964, creating a union between the islands of Gozo, Comino, Comminotto and Filfla. Its capital city is Valletta, situated between the Grand Harbor and the Marsamxett Harbor.
Wander around the city of Valletta and immerse yourself in Malta’s rich culture and traditions. Colloquially known as II-Belt, Valletta was once used by Britain as a naval base until 1979. Popeye fans can have fun frolicking in the Popeye Village, found two miles from Mellieħa. Built as a set of the 1980 film musical Popeye, the village is now an open air museum and entertainment complex. But if your one of those individuals who really loves to read, then the National Library of Malta is open for you. Known as Bibliotheca, it is among the many landmarks one can’t miss visiting.
Breathe in the fresh air and gaze into the pristine waters of Marsaskala Bay. Spend time to meditate in the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel located in Valletta. Here you’ll see the Basilica’s main feature, the majestic 17th century painting of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Lastly, never miss the chance to step into the walled cities of Cospicua, Vittoriosa, and Senglea. Established by the Knights of St. John, the three cities make up the Cottonera Lines.
Summer is clearly one of the favorite seasons of all time. With the warm weather and blue skies, no one can resist going out and traveling to various countries. So don’t be couch potatoes! Get up, pack your bags, and travel to Malta now.
