The first month o f 2019 has ended.
Now, we turn over a new page and continue through the year with much gusto and excitement. This February, we’re visiting one of the Philippines’s nearest neighboring countries to enjoy the cold festivities of the Snow Festival in Sapporo, Japan.
Considered the capital and largest metropolis of the Hokkaido Prefecture in Japan, Sapporo is a vast piece of land located in the Ishikari Plain. Gradual modernization and industrialization with some help from the American government soon began with Odori Park and extended its reach to other adjacent regions. It was a foundation that led Sapporo to where it is today: considered among the world’s fastest growing cities with a large focus on tourism, technology, and export.
The best time to visit Sapporo is during its winter season, allowing for a cold breeze and snow-filled attractions. Sapporo offers various landmarks for tourists to visit and choose from like the Clock Tower and the Former Hokkaido Government Office that houses printed materials, photos, and artifacts chronicling the city’s rich history. Take your pick between walking through a street filled with local and international shops and restaurants
found around the Sapporo Railway Station or stroll through colorful and fragrant bouts of nature, most notably cherry blossoms and maple trees, at the Hiraoka Tree Art Center.
Thrill seeking tourists will look forward to spending their time taking in the gorgeous view of the city ninety-meters above ground from the TV Tower in Odori Park, while liquor connoisseurs will have a good time at the Beer Museum sampling authentic Sapporo Beer products.
This month also marks the celebration of the annual Sapporo Snow Festival. Tourists can witness the work of local artisans in the elaborately designed snow and ice sculptures strewn all over the city, from the Tsudome area to Odori Park. Another must-visit attraction is the Ōkurayama Ski Jump Stadium where tourists can go ski jumping along Mount Okura’s incline.
Let us all rekindle our love for travel once again as we fly to Sapporo, Japan to witness their passion for the art of ice and snow as well as their undying devotion to their traditions and history this month of love. Join me as we celebrate and reward ourselves with a snow-filled adventure.
